TEXTUAL ANALYSIS:

WRITING YOUR WAY TO HAPPINES

The scientific research on the benefits of so-called expressive writing is ( simple present tense- expressing generalization ) surprisingly vast. Studies have shown that writing about oneself and personal experiences can improve mood disorders, help reduce symptoms among (preposition) cancer patients, improve a person’s health after a heart attack, reduce doctor visits and even boost memory.

Now researchers are (present continuous tense- expressing an action that is happening at the moment of speaking) studying whether the power of writing — and then rewriting — your personal story can lead to behavioral changes and improve happiness.

The concept is based on the idea that (noun clause) we all have a personal narrative that shapes our view of the world and ourselves. But sometimes our inner voice doesn’t get it completely right. Some researchers believe that by writing and then editing our own stories, we can change our perceptions of ourselves and identify obstacles that (relative clause) stand in the way of better health.

It may sound like self-help nonsense, but research suggests ( thougths of researchers) the effects are real.

ANALYSING THE TEXT:

The writer's tone is quite informative in this text, since he gives  us examples of improving health with writing. He also uses formal language, because he wants to give serious research results. He generally uses present tenses. He wants to express scientific truths and they are general informations. In my opinion, this new quite interesting, because I did not know that writing helps improving our happiness and health. Due to this news, I learned a new way to make me happy. Moreover, I liked the way of writing of the writer. He uses comprehensible words and sentences. Almost there is no word looking unfamiliar.

Reflection Task 3

If I were a jury member of the committee and chose the person of the year, that person would be one of the best people in the world. Because I think that the person of the year should be a model for all people with his or her behaviours. I think that I may choose Prof. Dr. Ömer Özkan who is a plastic surgeon.  He is a professor at the Akdeniz University in Antalya.  He is an important doctor in Turkey, because he and his team performed first full face transplant in 2012 in Turkey. His first achieve was a uterus transplant in 2011 from a cadaver to a woman, Derya Sert.  This operation was also the first operation for world, since other operations were accomplished by using organs from living donors. After that operation, he also transplanted two arms of a dead to a young man.  He and his team made two important transplants at the same time in 2012. A full face transplant and a multiple limb transplant were carried out. Those operations were both applied first time in Turkey.  I think that he is one of the most important people in our country. He makes many people happy due to his successful operations about transplantation. Many hopeless people have become hopeful thanks to Ömer Özkans achievements.  More and more people are waiting for face transplants or transplantation of other organs. Furthermore, with the help of him, people are becoming more social and they meet new people and get married sometimes. We can watch them on the TV about their new happy lives.
